The head of the surgery department of a hospital in the capital, will be tried for passive corruption. The surgeon requested and received from the patients and relatives about 55,000 lei for the surgery.
According to prosecutors, the acts of corruption were committed between July 12 and July 24.
Currently, the accused is suspended from office and is in house arrest. He has concluded an agreement on admitting his guilt.
In this case, the prosecutors applied seizures on the money raised during searches, as well as on the property of the accused, totaling more than 700 thousand lei.
If found guilty, the doctor is facing from three to seven years in prison and a fine of up to 300,000 lei, with the deprivation of the right to work for five to ten years.
