The radiologist at the Mother and Child Institute, who was detained with the head of the Radiology and Imaging Unit, Nicholae Doni, remains in custody for another 30 days. The decision was taken on Thursday, August 9, by the judges of the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
The magistrates have decided after the suspect's lawyer has appealed the first-instance decision by which the doctor was placed in custody for 30 days in the NAC isolator.
At the same time, on Monday, August 13, the Court will also rule on the preventive measure applied to the Department Chief at the Mother and Child Institute, Nicolae Doni, who was placed in house arrest for 30 days. The District Prosecutors appealed the first instance decision and demanded the preventive arrest of the Chief of the Department by detaining him in the NAC isolator.
The physician, together with Nicolae Doni, would have organized a scheme of cashing out money from people who were subject to prioritized investigations without prior appointment.
Other two resident doctors are also targeted in the same file, who are currently being investigated in a state of freedom.
The suspects risk up to 10 years in prison, with deprivation of the right to hold public office for up to 10 years and a fine in the amount of 400 thousand lei.
