Fraud with the foreign funds’ money like grants, loans and donations given to Moldova, will be punished by a term imprisonment up to 15 years. Such a bill has been approved today by Moldovan Parliament.
The document with amendments to the Penal Code claims that there will be harsher criminal penalties for using the foreign funds’ money contrary to their purpose or their misappropriation, writes the jurnal.md. That money is granted to Moldova for implementing some programs and socio-economic projects.
According to the new bill, there will be a term of imprisonment from 2 to 15 years, a deprivation to occupy certain positions or to practice certain activities from 2 to 8 years and a fine up to 180 thousand lei.
" If the fraudulent obtaining of funds or using the money contrary to their purpose is confirmed we will initiate a check every time with the donor organization " - explained the National Anticorruption Center’s vice president Cristina Tsarna.
At the moment, this type of fraud is punishable with a fine between 20 and 120 thousand lei or by a term of imprisonment from 2 to 3 years.
Currently Moldova has contracted commitments worth about 4.5 billion euros; 2.5 billion euros are already disbursed for the implementation of over 1,800 nationwide projects.
