A citizen of the Republic of Moldova died following the collapse of the Morandi bridge in the city of Genoa, Italy. The tragic accident, which occured yesterday, August 14, took the lives of 37 people.
According to Alexandr Roitman, the Head of the Public Diplomacy Service, Strategic Communication and Interaction with the Press within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the information was provided by the Italian authorities, and the Consulate is currently in contact with relatives of the deceased.
At the moment, other details about the victim were not provided. Roitman specified for CrimeMoldova that he also had Romanian citizenship.
The bridge section of the A10 highway, 100 meters high, collapsed over a railroad and several buildings after torrential rains. Most of the bridge has broken down over the rail.
Following the collapse, 37 people lost their lives, including a 9-year-old minor, and 15 people were hospitalized in critical condition.
