Iurie Radu, the mayor of Radulenii Vechi, Floresti District, representing Our Party, was detained by the North General Territorial Directorate and anticorruption prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Center.
NAC officers claim that the man is suspected of influence peddling, ZDG writes.
The mayor was denounced by a citizen, who claims that together with a former employee of Floresti District Council, the mayor extorted from him 9000 lei on the pretext that he could influence an official from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Soroca to evaluate at a lesser price some real estate property. The deal also provided that the mayor would influence a member of the tender commission, as a result, the denouncer would win the tender, according to the same source.
Iurie Radu was documented for extortion of money, which was subsequently referred under the control of NAC. He was recognized as a suspect and detained for 72 hours.
A criminal case was initiated in this respect, and if found guilty, the mayor risks imprisonment of up to six years or a fine of 60 000 to 80 000 lei.
