Mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, has been transferred from home arrest to judicial control for a period of 30 days.
The decision was handed down by the magistrates on Friday, November 10, after the prosecutors' request for an extension of the home arrest was rejected.
The mayor that has been temporarily suspended from office declared that today's decision is a formal one.
"Something's wrong, we'll figure it out in the coming days. I think it is a decision for show taken on the eve of the referendum. Normally, this process should have been closed. Now, I think they will start to exercise pressure on me for my resignation and will spread rumors that I joined Plahotniuc. We will appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal and we will ask for my full release," Chirtoaca said.
At the same time, the mayor noted with reference to the images that appeared in in the public space, that "the attempts to shake and denigrate his image will continue”.
We remind you that Dorin Chirtoaca was detained on the evening of May 25 by anticorruption prosecutors and the National Anticorruption Center, being suspected of influence peddling in a paid parking case. At the same time, anticorruption prosecutors announced in August this year that the mayor is being investigated in a new criminal case on charges of overcoming his duties in a case on changing the way of execution of housing titles in the capital.
