Arrest warrants for different terms have been issued into the names of eight people, detained last week within the drug case. At the same time, another 11 suspects have been placed under house arrest for 30 days.
Angela Starinschi, representative of the NAC (National Anticorruption Center) specified that the suspects will be held in the institution’s isolator.
"Additionally, a cardiologist was hospitalized with heart problems," Starinschi said.
We remind you that 20 people, specifically 12 employees of medical institutions and 8 representatives of pharmaceutical companies, were detained on 9 February by the NAC.
According to the prosecutors, pharmacy sales agents identified physicians from health care institutions and persuaded them, for some amounts of money, to prescribe certain types of medicines to their patients.
In their turn, physicians involved in the scheme, prescribed to the patients these medicines, as well as referred them to the pharmacy where the preparations can be bought.
The suspects are investigated within cases initiated for passive and active corruption, and abuse of office. If found guilty, the physicians risk up to 10 years of imprisonment, while the employees of the pharmaceutical companies up to 6 years.
