Former consul of Moldova in Bologna, Nicolae Nuca, was arrested for corruption and illegal issuance of documents, allowing Arab citizens to enter and reside in Moldova.
Prosecutor General Eduard Harunjen said they detained an official of the Foreign Ministry, but he did not reveal any names. The prosecutor stated that detention was related to the consul in Istanbul, Veaceslav Filip.
The suspect was detained during a joint operation, carried out by anticorruption prosecutors and SIS officers, according to deschide.md.
On October 16, 2013, Nicolae Nuca was recalled from the position of Consul General of the Republic of Moldova in Bologna, after the Foreign Ministry had identified a number of violations in the work of the consulate. There were multiple signals and complaints of the Moldovan diaspora in northern Italy on Nuca’s activities, who was accused of doubling the prices for consular services, personal collection of money and lack of appropriate behavior with the citizens.
In the period of 2004 – 2007, he held the position of consul in the Moldovan Embassy in Rome, Italy. In 2008 - 2009, he was the official representative of ASCOM Company in Iraq, and in 2001 – 2004, he worked in the Foreign Ministry in Chisinau.
The former consul continues his work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, serving as head of a department of the Consular Directorate.
