The four employees of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service (CPESS), detained by anticorruption prosecutors today, are accused of claiming and receiving money from several economic agents of Chisinau to leave unnoticed the violations detected during the checks.
The detentions took place on Wednesday, July 12, following the searches conducted by the Internal Protection and Anticorruption officers jointly with anticorruption prosecutors, in the offices, homes, and cars of the four suspects.
According to the prosecutors, in the period of March – May this year, the employees of the CPESS claimed and received from economic agents money to leave the detected violations unseen and subsequently issue positive opinions on the final compliance with the fire prevention and safety rules.
Following the 19 searches conducted, law enforcers found and seized 15590 euros, 12350 US dollars, 320 pounds and 42,000 lei. Moreover, they found notes with drafts, acts, blanks, personal files of economic agents, technical design cards, end-of-approval notifications of constructions with suspicions of falsification or illegal issuance. Following the raids, the suspects were detained for 72 hours.
Internal Protection officers and Anticorruption prosecutors have initiated three criminal cases for passive corruption. If found guilty, the suspects risk 5 to 10 years of imprisonment, a fine of 300 to 400 thousand lei and deprivation of the right to hold certain public positions, or to exercise certain activities for a period of 7 - 10 years.
