A head of a department of the Criuleni district hospital was detained on the morning of April 12 for passive corruption. The doctor appropriated the money paid by uninsured patients for the provision of medical services.
The case has come to the attention of law enforcement authorities, after several patients reported the illegality committed by the doctor.
The head of the department allegedly claimed and received remuneration for granting or hurrying the provision of medical services to uninsured patients, and in some cases, to insured patients.
The suspect received the money himself or through intermediaries, without recording it.
Furthermore, anti-corruption officers and prosecutors carried our searches at the suspect's home and office.
The doctor was detained for 72 hours. If found guilty, he may be sentenced to a maximum term of seven years and deprivation of the right to occupy certain public positions, or to engage in certain activities for a period of 5 to 10 years.
