A lawyer from Causeni was detained by anticorruption officers and prosecutors on charges of influence peddling.
According to the informer, the suspect had claimed and received 6000 euros to influence the prosecutor and the judge that handled the criminal case, initiated against the informer, promising a milder sentence.
Following some special investigative measures, the lawyer was caught red-handed. The lawyer voluntarily handed over the money, passed to him under the control of the National Anticorruption Centre (NAC).
The suspect was detained for 72 hours. The court is to decide on the preventive measures.
A criminal case was initiated in this respect. If found guilty, the lawyer risks imprisonment of up to six years, or a fine of up to 4,000 conventional units (200 000 lei).
Since the beginning of the year, 18 lawyers have been detained by the NAC for corruption charges.
