A lawyer from Chisinau was detained by the law enforcement authorities being suspected of influence peddling.
According to the informer, the lawyer claimed a sum of 1,800 euros from him, claiming to have influence on decision-makers from several courts of first instance and appeal, examining the material the petitioner filed against a court’s decision in an administrative case.
The suspect was detained when receiving the money. Subsequently, being heard by the anticorruption prosecutors, he fully admitted his guilt and decided to cooperate with the prosecuting authority.
The press service officer of the Antocorruption and Internal Protection Service Alexandru Boboc, said the suspect is 50-years-old and is investigated at large.
The police initiated a criminal case for influence peddling. If found guilty, the suspect could face a fine of up to 4,000 conventional units (200 thousand lei) or imprisonment of up to six years.
