A man from Bălţi was arrested by the police officers and anticorruption prosecutors for influence peddling.
According to the informer, the suspect together with an unknown person claimed 4700 euros, saying that he has influence over a prosecutor from Bălţi, and could determine him to give instructions on withdrawing the request for appeal of a sentence. According to the Bălţi Court sentence, the person was found guilty of causing property damage by deception or abuse of trust.
The case was documented and as a result of special investigative measures and criminal investigation, the man was caught red-handed. He was recognized as a suspect and detained for a period of 72 hours.
The press officer of the National Anticorruption Center, Victoria Timuş said that the man would work in a judicial related field. Timuş said: “The prosecutors are to decide on the application of the preventive arrest measure later.”
The law enforcement authorities have initiated a criminal case. If found guilty, the suspect could face a prison sentence of up to six years or a fine of up to 200 000 lei.
