A man from Ceadîr-Lunga was arrested on Wednesday, December 14th, by the anticorruption officers and prosecutors for attempting to corrupt a customs officer.

The man had offered a bribe of 1 500 EUR to a customs inspector to carry illegal goods without the necessary provenance and accompanying documents. The man also hoped to not be hold accountable for smuggling consumer goods.





The customs officer alerted the NAC about this case and later the man was caught red-handed. The money handed under the NAC control, were found in the suspect's pocket. He was detained for 72 hours.

Customs Service said that the suspect is 43 years old, nd the value of the goods is estimated at approximately 500 000 lei. The goods were purchased from the KM7 market from Odessa city and were being sold illegally in markets and shopping centers from the capital city.

Two criminal cases were initiated on this matter. If found guilty, the suspect could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years, and a fine of 2,000 to 4,000 conventional units (100 000-200 000 lei).
