Five inspectors of the National Transportation Agency (ANTA) and a representative of a road transport operator have been detained in a corruption case. The suspects claimed and received money from truck drivers not to document their traffic violations.
The detentions took place on Monday, May 14, following the searches carried out at the mobile points of Sangera and Cimislia.
According to the NAC, transport inspectors operated at the two mobile check points for truckloads. There, the suspects claimed and received amounts of 200 to 500 lei from road haulage operators in order not to document traffic violations by large-size vehicles transporting dangerous goods such as explosives, highly flammable, radioactive or toxic substances.
Several criminal cases initiated for passive and active corruption and influence peddling joined in a joint criminal prosecution.
The persons detained are to be escorted to the NAC for hearings.
