Judging the defendants involved in the altered food case provided to kindergartens began with delays. The preliminary hearing scheduled for today, June 8, was postponed, because one of the defendant - Lilian Sofroni, who would have been ill. A lawyer who was involved in another trial did not appear at the hearing.
The defendant Lilian Sofroni is expected to present future health proof evidence to confirm the absence from the hearing. Also, the absent lawyer must submit evidence.
According to the case prosecutor, 9 persons are accused, and 15 are under prosecution.
They are investigated in terms of committing influence peddling, active and passive corruption, negligence in service, and abuse of office.
Recall that the detentions in the case took place in November of 2016. Then, 17 people, including economic agents and ED officials, were detained. The prosecution began in March of 2016.
The law enforcement officials confirmed their involvement in the rigged auctions of the following companies: Sanex-Commerce, Crinic Grup, Lovis Angro, Draur Grup and Status Prim. Of these, only Sanex-Commerce was included in the Public Procurement Bans List, being banned from bidding.
If they are found guilty, the persons are facing up to 25 years in prison, a fine of up to 8,000 conventional units and the deprivation of the right to hold public office for a period of 10 years.
