The former Prime Minister Vlad Filat, sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment for passive corruption and influence peddling, announced the change of lawyers.
According to a message posted on the politician's Facebook page, the defense of the former prime minister will be provided by lawyer Victor Munteanu.
Munteanu will represent external legal rights and interests (ECHR) and will coordinate the work of lawyers internally. The information was also confirmed by the lawyer on his Facebook page.
Vlad Filat thanked the former defense team - the "Popa and Associates" Associate Bureau, which has represented him so far.
Earlier, the Defendants Bureau have sued the recognition of a mediation transaction concluded between them and Vladimir Filat, which was not executed in the agreed terms. Thus, the lawyers asked for 1.3 million euros, 100 thousand dollars and 230 thousand lei, which the former prime minister owed for services. The application was also rejected by the court of first instance and the appeal.
The law firm then stated that there are no disagreements between the defendants and Vlad Filat, and the amounts requested include the payment for the services provided by lawyers from abroad.
The new lawyer of the former prime minister has worked in several international human rights organizations, including the ECHR, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the Council of Europe and others.
The former prime minister was sentenced, in June 2016, to nine years of jail for passive corruption and influence peddling. The politician did not acknowledge his guilt, saying his file would be a political one.
In August 2017, the former defense team sued Moldova at the European Court of Human Rights for violating Vlad Filat's rights in the domestic trial.
