Several suspects among the 20 people detained on Friday, February 9, by the NAC for illicit drug schemes, received preventive arrest warrants.
According to publika.md, on February 10th, the Chişinău District Court detained 7 people, including 4 representatives of pharmaceutical companies, 2 doctors and one employee of the University of Medicine. Five suspects have received 30 days of house arrest, and 2 will stay for a month in the isolator.
Also, according to the source, today, February 11, the magistrates decided to place a physician from Edinet and a pharmacist from Chisinau in arrest for 30 days. At the same time, the representative of a pharmaceutical company in the capital received a 30 days house arrest warrant.
Judges are to decide the fate of the other suspects.
Recall that 20 persons, including 12 employees of the medical institutions in Chisinau, Cahul and Edinet, as well as 8 representatives of the pharmaceutical companies in Chisinau, were detained on February 9 by NAC.
According to prosecutors, sales agents of pharmacies identified physicians from health care institutions and persuaded them, for some amounts, to prescribe certain medicines to patients.
In turn, the physicians involved in the scheme, indicated to the patients these preparations, but also the pharmacy from which they can be bought.
Several criminal investigations for passive, active corruption and abuse of office were initiated on this matter.
If they are found guilty, doctors risk up to 10 years in prison and pharmaceutical company employees, up to 6 years of imprisonment.
