The President of the Basketball Federation of Moldova Octavian Vucol was arrested yesterday by the NAC officers and the anticorruption prosecutors. He is suspected of acquiring foreign assets by fraud in the especially large proportions. The victim is a citizen of the Slovak Republic, which claims he was deceived for 210 000 euro.
The prosecutors found that Vucol together with two others persons convinced the Slovak’s citizen to invest 340 000 euro in the construction of a sports complex in Chisinau for the Basketball Federation of Moldova (the Federation hasn’t any right to the plot of land or the permission to build there something).
According to the NAC officers, during 2015, the Slovak citizen, being the director of the Slovak’s company, transferred to the Basketball Federation of Moldova accounts various amounts of money for starting the constructions of the sports complex. The company was damaged with 210 000 euro or 4 645 388 lei.
Today by the NAC officers were also arrested two Vucol’s accomplices: an electrician and a director of a JSC. Both of them are suspected of fraud.
Three of them are detained for 72 hours. They can be jailed for 15 years for fraud in especially large amounts.
If they are found guilty, the suspects face up to 15 years in prison for swindle in especially large proportions. The case is investigated by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
