Two employees of Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian Republic, both heads of departments, were detained by officers of Security Committee and accused of "committing financial frauds in large proportions."

Sources in the Security Ministry said that the employees implemented a criminal scheme of embezzlement of Defense Ministry assets, thus damaging the institution by 420 962 Transnistrian rubles (about 37.3 thousand dollars).

In the hearings, both suspects refused to testify, referring to Article 23 of the local Constitution.

On November 18, 2016, a court in Tiraspol decided that both suspects be arrested during the investigation.

The regional Security Committee also say they are currently investigating the case to identify accomplices, to determine the extent of damages and ways of trading stolen goods.

If convicted, both former employees of the Defense Ministry risk from 7 to 12 years of imprisonment.
