The Vice-Minister of Defense of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian republic, Sergei Levsin, was relieved of the office on Thursday, December 1st, following a corruption scandal. Levsin also holds the position of chief of the Reserve Department of the Ministry of Defence.

Levsin’s relieve occurred after a corruption scheme in the ministry was discovered on November 22nd. A number of employees were suspected of embezzlement in large proportions. Following an investigation, the following people were detained and placed under arrest: the head of the fuel ensuring Department Iurii Krasnikov and the head of the fuel warehouse, Vladimir Popik.

According to preliminary calculations, the amount of embezzlement is at least 420 000 Transdniestrian rubles (about US $ 37 000).
