A former police officer, who lived in the village of Stoianovca, Cantemir District, was shot in the chest with a hunting rifle. The dead man, aged 37, was found last night by a passerby in the culvert of the village.
Police officers initiated a criminal case for murder by negligence, according to protv.md. One of the versions, considered by the investigation, is that someone had shot at him, while hunting in an illegal place.
Relatives and neighbors say the victim was a calm and friendly person.
Police have three suspects, but so far, no one has been arrested.
"We are waiting for the results of the forensic examination. The basic version is that the murder was made recklessly, as the result of violations of safety requirements during the hunting," said the head of Cantemir Police Inspectorate, Victor Zacrevschi for publika.md.
For involuntary manslaughter, the Criminal Code provides for up to three years of imprisonment.
