A Moldovan hacker is being criminally investigated after installing viruses on the computers of over 3600 Moldovan and foreign citizens. The viruses were installed by distributing unlicensed programs through "torrent" platforms.

The Moldovan was working with other people who have not yet been identified.

The suspects uploaded various unlicensed programs on torrent-based platforms that were meant to steal the information necessary to access to electronic mail or other online accounts.

As a result of infected computer systems, hackers have obtained passwords and other online access to electronic mail, bank accounts, websites of over 3600 users in Moldova and abroad.




If found guilty, the suspect risks a fine of up to 267,500 lei or 2 to 5 years in prison.

In this context, the prosecutors urge people to use only licensed programs or to use modern security tools.
