A Turkish citizen will be tried after trying to cross the border two weeks ago, based on a false Iraqi passport, at Chisinau International Airport. The law enforcement officials have determined that he is being searched internationally for committing a murder.
According to prosecutors, on September 5, the defendant presented a false passport on behalf of a citizen of Iraq. At the same time, it was found that the blanket of the Iraqi citizen's passport presented to the Border Police by the defendant appears to be fraudulent in 2014 in the NINEWA province of Iraq, under the control of the ISIS terrorist organization.
According to INTERPOL data, the suspect, aged 21, is internationally searched for a murder in Istanbul city.
In 2015, the young man fatally stabbed a man in a shopping center and attempted to enter the Republic of Moldova the same year with a false passport. And in the previous case, it was caught by the border guards, but in order not to be held accountable, the Turkish citizen tried to bribe the Border Police employee with a sum of 5,000 euros. His deed was referred to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, after which the young man was detained and sentenced to two years in jail. He has served his sentence in a prison in our country.
At the moment, the suspect is being investigated for the possession and use of fake official documents. Currently, he is placed in pre-trial detention at Penitentiary No. 13 in the capital.
The chief Prosecutor of Chisinau Prosecutor's Office, Ştefan Şaptefraţi, specified that the young man, announced in search for murder, is to be extradited to Turkey only after he has been punished in our country. "At the same time, we have already told foreign authorities about the suspect's detention," said Sefratti.
If found guilty, the suspect risks a fine of up to 47,500 or unpaid community service from 180 to 240 hours or a prison term of up to 5 years.
