On the evening of May, 17 the Security and Intelligence Service and the Prosecutor’s Office of Chisinau officers due to a complex of special actions and investigation have detained a Moldovan citizen, suspected of informing the Ukrainian mercenaries about the military actions, especially about the launching and directing artillery fire on the Ukraine's national army positions.
According to the SIS press release, the suspect is a man aged 28, originally from Ungheni. He is suspected of activating in the self-proclaimed separatist entities of the Luhansk People's Republic and collecting the information from territory controlled by the Ukraine’s constitutional authorities.
During the interrogations the man admitted his guilt. There were found some foreign identity documents on his name, including the military record. With these documents he planned to return to south-eastern Ukraine to continue the participation in military conflict.
The young man was detained for 72 hours. There is initiated a criminal case under article 141 of the Penal Code of the RM – “The mercenary activity”. If he is found guilty, he risks to be jailed from 5 to 10 years.
The SIS reminds the Moldovan citizens of the seriousness and of consequences of the participation in military actions in other states, because they are severely punished according to law.
