Buiucani District Court decided today to extend over a period of 30 days the mandate for the arrest of the former president of the Management Board of BEM, Grigore Gacikevici.
Recall that Gacikevici was detained on 21 March this year on suspicion of bank fraud.
According to a press release of the Prosecutor’s General Office, there are about 10 cases opened against Gacikevici. The former president of the MB along with four members of the Crediting Committee of BEM committed several violations of the rules of crediting, causing damage in particularly high proportions to the BEM.
In early December, Gacikevici was arrested and placed under arrest. NAC (National Anticorruption Commission) representatives said that he is accused of having illegally released loans worth 260 million lei to three companies.
In May, the NAC detained the former head of the Management Board of BEM for violation of the rules of lending. Additionally, they detained the former head of the Legal Department of BEM, Mihail Bejenari, director of Valiexchimp LLC Valentin Bodisteanu and director of Mosbani LLC Mihail Mosin.
According to anticoruptie.md, on 5 November 2015, the Buiucani District Court was to pronounce the sentence with regard to Gacikevici, but it decided to resume the judicial inquiry on the grounds that the court needed more information to take a decision.
The appeals, filed by Gacikevici’s lawyers requesting his release and non-custodial interrogation were repeatedly rejected (see here and here).
According to the legislation, violation of crediting rules is punishable with imprisonment of up to 7 years.
