Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office charged today a resident of the capital with knocking down two young men, aged 27, on a pedestrian crossing and leaving the accident site.
In a press release, the Prosecutor General's Office announces that: The driver's actions fall under the offense, set by art.264 par. (3) of the Criminal Code (violation of safety rules of movement by a person that drives a means of transport, which resulted in the death of a person) and art.266 Criminal Code (leaving the accident site).
Being heard by prosecutors, the accused admitted his guilt. Today, the magistrates will examine the request of prosecutors to apply him the measure of preventive arrest for 30 days.
The tragic accident took place on August 14, at around 11:40 pm, on a pedestrian crossing on Decebal Boulevard in Chisinau. The accused, aged 23, was driving a car of Chrysler model and did not let the victims pass, though they were regularly crossing the street on a crosswalk, and smashed them in full speed. Following the violent impact, one youth died and the other was transported to the hospital with multiple fractures.
For this criminal offense, the law provides imprisonment from 3 to 7 years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of up to 4 years.
