Cigarette smugglers are becoming increasingly inventive. The border police officers from Iasi found a hand-crafted drone with 12500 cigarettes of Moldovan origin on board, packed in a small package, to be transported to Romania.
The discovery was made on the evening of February 12th, at around 20:00, when the police officers heard in the border area some noise produced by a small aircraft, specific to drones, which crossed the border between the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
Soon the customs officers detected the collapsed and damaged drone. A pack containing cigarettes from the Republic of Moldova was caught to it.
The cigarettes, worth almost 3,000 lei, and the drone were seized.
The Moldovan authorities have been informed of the case.
Iasi border police officers are carrying out investigative actions to identify the persons involved in the offense.
