Three people, including a former policeman, have been detained for transporting and selling drugs in nightclubs. Following the operation, police officers removed from circulation over 900 ecstasy pills worth about 200,000 lei.
According to the police, the suspects are aged 23, 26 and 33 and live in Chisinau. Moreover, besides the former policeman, another member of the group is a well- known bodybuilder.
The three members of the group set up a drug distribution network, operating in the capital's leisure facilities. They were also responsible for the smuggling of drugs across the country. Thus, one pill was sold for 150 lei, but in the leisure center, it could be bought for 350 lei.
The first suspect was detained on the territory of an educational institution in Botanica sector. He intended to sell the ecstasy pills to the guests of a leisure center. Following the searches of his car, police officers found and seized 440 ecstasy pills with the Coca Cola logo.
Later, the 26-year-old bodybuilder was detained in the center of the capital. He had over 450 pills with Coca-Cola logo on him, intended for further sale.
Shortly, the third suspect was handcuffed. He turned out to be a former police officer, aged 33, dismissed on personal request. He smuggled the drugs into the country and sent them for sale to other members of the group.
Following the searches, law enforcers found several items intended for drug use, mobile phones and money derived from drug sales.
Custody warrants have been issued with respect to two of the suspects. The court is to decide on the preventive measure with respect to the third member of the group.
If found guilty, the suspects risk from 7 to 15 years of imprisonment. Since the beginning of the year, the police have removed from circulation over 3900 ecstasy pills.
