Five Turkish citizens are accused of heroin smuggling and trafficking. The suspects have camouflaged 80 kg of heroin in a tomato-loaded semi-trailer that was transported from Istanbul, Turkey to the Republic of Moldova.
For over 2 years, the law enforcement officials have documented the criminal group, identifying two possible drug transportation routes:
Between 2015 and 2017, the suspects purchased 4 semitrailers and towed trucks, where shelters for drug concealment were arranged. Thus, the suspects have camouflaged the transportation of drugs through the provision of goods transport services.
In February 2018, the five suspects camouflaged about 80 kg of heroin in a tomato-loaded semi-trailer that was transported from Istanbul, Turkey, to the Republic of Moldova, crossing Bulgaria and Romania.
On February 23, 2018, the Moldovan prosecutors conducted searches in the Ialoveni district, on the territory of a warehouse and in the YILDIZ TRAYLER model semitrailer. About 79 kg of heroin were detected and raised following the raids.
At the request of the prosecutors, controlled drug delivery in Turkey was carried out in cooperation with the authorities of Bulgaria, Romania, Azerbaijan and Ukraine, throughout the road, the truck being supervised non-stop.
In the criminal case, a total of about 2 million lei was seized on the means of transport.
The 5 Turkish citizens risk punishment for drug trafficking from 7 to 15 years of imprisonment and for smuggling from 3 to 10 years in prison.
