A man from Anenii Noi has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for trafficking in human beings for labor exploitation. The defendant trafficked 5 inhabitants from the same district, promising them paid work in Russia.
Prosecutors have demonstrated that in the period of March - September 2013, the defendant recruited 5 people from the villages of Calfa and Roscana. The suspect promised the victims well-paid jobs in construction in Moscow.
The man sent them money and explained how to reach the destination. The victims were housed in the Clinical Hospital of Psychiatry no. 1 in Moscow, where they were to carry out repairs.
Being assured that they will be paid for their work, the Moldovans continued to work for free for about five months, until they realized they had been deceived.
Returning home, they appealed to the Prosecutor's Office and a criminal case was initiated in this respect.
The defendant was detained in the summer of 2017 and then he faced justice.
The man will serve his sentence in a closed type penitentiary. The sentence has the right to appeal.
