A police officer, aged 23, faces up to four years of imprisonment for having injured a pedestrian, while drunk driving.
Chisinau Prosecution Office completed the investigation and referred to court the criminal charge against the officer of the National Inspectorate of Patrol, who this summer had bumped into a pedestrian in Grigore Ureche Street.
On July 14, 2016, the police officer knocked down a woman that was crossing the road, then the Volkswagen Golf bumped into an electric pillar. The victim had multiple fractures and was hospitalized. Immediately after the accident, the police officer underwent a medical examination, which found that he had a severe alcoholic intoxication, the concentration of alcohol vapor in the breath being 0.84 mg/l.
Shortly after the accident, the victim's husband said that they tried to influence the examination of the case. According to the man, several colleagues of the police officer tried to protect him and the accused might take advantage of the position he holds.
