An investigation officer of the Police Inspectorate of Falesti was arrested after he knocked down a pedestrian, who was regularly crossing the street. The policeman left the crash scene.
According to the prosecutors, the accident took place on Wednesday evening, November 2, in Stefan cel Mare Street, Balti. The police officer was driving his Volkswagen Passat at excessive speed; he crashed a pedestrian, who was crossing the street regularly. The victim turned out to be the consul of Romania in Balti. After the violent impact, he was transported with serious injuries to the Balti Municipal Hospital. Currently, the victim is in a serious but stable condition.
After the accident, the police officer left the crash scene. Moreover, he persuaded a friend of his to assume responsibility for this accident. However, the investigation actions showed that at the moment of impact, the car was driven namely by the officer.
The suspect was preventively detained for 72 hours. Today, the prosecutors have filed charges of violation of safety rules of movement by the person conducting a means of transport, which resulted in serious bodily or health injury, and leaving the site of road accident.
Prosecutors will also submit a petition requesting the suspect’s arrest for 30 days.
If found guilty, the suspect risks a term of 3 to 7 years of imprisonment with the deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 4 years.
