Investigation officers and prosecutors of Rascani District of Chisinau revealed criminal activities of a group of individuals, who stole license plates of cars registered abroad.
Special investigative measures, carried out over the past three months, established that members of the criminal group are three residents of Calarasi, aged between 28 and 37. So far, the police have collected evidence of at least 5 thefts in Calarasi and 8 in Chisinau.
One of the suspects is as a taxi driver; his task was to identify cars registered abroad and steal the plates.
In the course of investigation, the suspects told in detail how they committed the thefts of plates and how they obtained money from car owners.
As it was reported, the victims found a note on the windshield, which explained the procedure of payment of 2,000 lei in exchange for license plates. The owners had to make a money transfer to the Russian Federation, after which they were informed by letter, where they could find the license plates.
Following the searches, conducted at the homes of the suspects, police found several stolen license plates, a gun that was illegally kept, cell phones that were used in criminal actions, mediums with information and SIM cards.
The suspects are currently investigated for theft and blackmail. They risk punishment by imprisonment for a term from 7 to 10 years.
