The woman, aged 63, who this spring stabbed her grandchildren with a kitchen knife, was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment, ZDG writes. The decision was ruled out by the Buiucani District court, but it may be challenged to the Court of Appeal.
The incident occurred a few days before Easter, April 24, in the village of Cretoaia, Anenii Noi. The slain boys, her daughter’s children, were only 3 and 1, 5 years old.
According to the source, the woman, being home alone, stabbed the two little ones with a kitchen knife, inflicting them several bows in the neck. The boys’ mother was working in Chisinau at that moment. After committing the crime, the woman tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrists.
The children's dead bodies were found by the woman’s neighbors, who alerted the police.
On August 29 this year, the case opened against the woman was indicted. She was accused of deliberate murder of two minors, committed with particular cruelty.
According the ZDG, the woman underwent a psychiatric examination, which concluded that "the old woman is healthy and responsible in all respects" and that she "simulated" her mental illness to escape punishment.
The case served basis for the investigation of local government’s involvement in crime prevention, but no one was found guilty.
