Border Police officers detained November 15, a resident of Stefan Voda, suspected of human trafficking. She allegedly recruited an old woman and made her beg in Russia. The woman was arrested when trying to leave the country.
The Moldovan citizen, aged 36, was detained on November 15 at Palanca crossing point. The investigation established that the woman, using the vulnerability and confidence of the elderly, recruited a 67-year-old resident of the village of Palanca, Stefan Voda District. In 2012, the old woman was repeatedly forced to practice begging in the Russian Federation. Subsequently, the old woman mysteriously disappeared.
In this context, the officials held a series of actions to reveal the illegal activity of the Moldovan citizen that specialized in exploitation of human trafficking victims.
A criminal case for human trafficking was initiated in this respect. Currently, the suspect is in custody for a period of 30 days.
If found guilty, she could face a prison sentence of 6 to 12 years.
Recall that recently, the Central District Court of Chisinau convicted a woman from Ialoveni to 7 years of imprisonment for a similar case. She was found guilty of imposing a fellow citizen to practice begging in the Russian Federation.
