Buicani District Court accepted today the prosecutor's request on extending the arrest warrant in respect of Ilan Sor. Thus, the mayor of Orhei will remain under house arrest until December 19.
Additionally, at the opening of today’s court session, the defense put forward some requests, but their examination was postponed to December 1.
Both Ilan Sor and his lawyers claimed again that the court’s decision was illegal. The lawyers also mentioned that the prosecution comes every time with the same arguments to extend the arrest warrant. They said they would appeal the decision of Buiucani court to the Court of Appeal.
The defense said that every time they ask the meetings to be open, but at the request of the prosecutor, they are closed.
Recall that Ilan Sor is investigated in a case of extremely large swindle and money laundering through the Savings Bank (BEM). According to the prosecution, the amount of bad loans, granted by the BEM during the time when Ilan Shor was President of the Management Board of the BEM, amounts to 13 billion lei. In his defense, Shor said he had acted by instructions of the former Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
