New details about the searches, carried out by Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service (IPAS) together with Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office. Two police officers, a student and a former employee of the Stefan cel Mare Police Academy under the MIA have been detained, being suspected of involvement in a corruption scheme.
The suspects demanded and received money from several people, claiming to have influence on decision-makers in several subdivisions of MIA, including the Stefan cel Mare Police Academy. The suspects claimed that they could solve the problem of employment with the General Inspectorate of Police, as well as the enrollment to the Police Academy.
IPAS's public relations service announces that they have been collecting evidence for six months and initiated three criminal cases for influence peddling, passive and active bribery.
"This morning, at around 8:00, IPAS officers, together with NAC officers and anticorruption prosecutors, simultaneously conducted 15 searches in the cars, homes and offices of the suspects in Briceni, Falesti and Chisinau. Following the searches, officers found and seized computers, mobile phones and other items relevant for the cases investigated. Four suspects were detained for a period of up to 72 hours, and two other suspects are investigated at large," the statement said.
Currently, IPAS officers are verifying whether other persons have been involved in the investigated crimes.
