On 16 January 2014 the prosecutor Adriana Betisor refused to initiate the prosecution of Michael Gofman, after several businessmen have complained that Gofman would have demanded bribes.
Agora.md presented a document where it is shown that on 14 December 2013 a group of citizens, mostly foreigners, sent a letter to the country's leaders and ambassadors of EU and US stating they have been persecuted by the former deputy head of the Division for Preventing and Combating Money Laundering of the NAC, Mihail Gofman, who would have asked for bribes.
Those who signed the letter say they have decided to offer Mihail Gofman 20 thousand Euros a month not to be intimidated.
The letter also states that Mihail Gofman would be the grandson of the parliamentarian Maria Postoico, while Gofman’s "master" is a businessman named Leonid Volneanschi that would have set a money laundering scheme through Transnistria.
At the same time the subject was examined by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office in the same period when a procedure was initiated to monitor Gofman's lifestyle.
At December 20, 2013 the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office initiates the process of verifying the information. On 16 January 2014 the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office represented by the prosecutor Adriana Betisor, refuses to issue the order on the initiation of the criminal prosecution and classifies the file.
As stated by agora.md, according to the Order, after hearing the authors of the letter, two of them declared the signatures do not belong to them and they know nothing about the content of the letter.
Mihail Gofman said then that the alleged illicit actions are a provocation and an attempt of personal intimidation. During the hearings he also added that he knows the people who signed that letter. Gofman also said that he has no family relationship with Maria Postoico.
We remind that in July 2013 the National Anticorruption Centre’s leadership issued the Order on monitoring the lifestyle of Mihail Gofman. The monitoring lasted nearly half a year, Gofman being tested on the polygraph as well. It means that the statements made by Gofman to Adriana Betisor took place exactly during the period when he was subject to internal monitoring by the NAC.
