The magistrates of the Buiucani District Court have issued warrants of remand for another 13 people involved in the tender rigging case.

Both Andrei Grosu, Head of Education, Youth and Sports Department of Rascani District and his deputy, Dumitru Vatavu, received 30 days of detention in Prison No. 13. The lawyer of the Education, Youth and Sports Department of Buiucani District, the chief accountant of the Education, Youth and Sport Department of the Center District, and Maria Cusnir, chief accountant of the Education, Youth and Sports Department of Rascani District were also placed under house arrest for 30 days.

At the same time, the court issued an arrest warrant for 25 days for Tatiana Jigau, an employee of a limited liability company, involved in the tender rigging case. The head of Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Defense received 20 days of preventive arrest and Viorel Galasanu, head of a food supply company, received 30 days of detention.

Most of those remanded will be held in Prison no. 13 in Chisinau.

Recall that yesterday, four other people, detained in the case of rigged auctions in the education sector, received warrants of remand.

According to the NAC, at least 23 people are suspected of rigging public tenders. The criminal case was initiated in early March of 2016, and in the course of criminal investigations more than 30 criminal cases have been initiated for abuse of office, influence peddling, active and passive bribery and acting ultra vires.

If found guilty, those involved face up to 25 years of imprisonment, a fine of up to 8,000 conventional units and deprivation of the right to hold public office for a period of 10 years.
