Victoriabank Commercial Bank's majority shareholder, Russian billionaire Sergei Lobanov is being investigated in a criminal case in Russia, for alcohol smuggling informs newsmaker.md, referring to Novaya Gazeta.
The case also concerns the head of the Customs Service of Russia Andrei Beleaninov. Two offices were raided today by the employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB).
Previously, Lobanov was the chief counselor of the Russian Customs, and is currently the director of Russia Arsenal insurance company, which had expanded its business due to several contracts with the Russian Customs Service. The relationship between Lobanov and Beleaninov is confirmed by the business connection of the first with Beleaninov’s daughter, and by the fact that he would be the son-in-law of the head of the Russian Customs.
Lobanov obtained the Victoribank major share of 39.2% last year through an offshore Cyprus company Insidown Ltd, which officially belongs to the Romanian dentist Peter Paul Fischer. According to newsmaker.md, Lobanov is also part of the Administrative Board of the bank, being elected as its member on July 8, 2016.
The same case targets the Russian billionaire Dimitri Mihalcenco.
