The magistrates of the Court of Appeal rejected today, December 6, the lawyers’ appeal and Veaceslav Platon will remain in custody.
As communicated by the prosecutor Andrei Baiesu, the prosecution presented sufficient evidence to ensure that Platon remains in custody. Additionally, the prosecutor pointed out that the translation, requested by Veaceslav Platon, would soon be completed.
Recall that in the last court session, the prosecutor was obliged to present to Veaceslav Platon until today the materials of the prosecution, translated into Russian.
However, lawyer Eduard Rudenco claims, "The prosecution is cheating. There was no evidence since the very beginning. Today, we presented proofs that Platon was kidnapped and not extradited from Ukraine. Veaceslav Platon’s presence in Moldova is illegal and he was extradited by complicity of some people, including of the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko," the defender concluded.
Moreover, Rudenco specified that all the documents, issued by law enforcement agencies are void.
"It is difficult to explain the conclusions of the Court of Appeal. They clearly express disrespect for us. There’s personal interest of the man, who captured the power in the country, he wants to take over Platon’s assets and continue to rob people," Veaceslav Platon’s lawyer added.
Platon is investigated for large-scale embezzlement and money laundering, damaging the Savings Bank with over 800 million lei. He denies the accusations and believes that his case was framed up at the request of Vlad Plahotniuc.
If found guilty, he faces up to 25 years of imprisonment.
