The first hearing in the case of former Prime Minister Vlad Filat, takes place today, September 20, at the Court of Appeal.
LDP leader's lawyers have attacked Buiucani Court's decision, by which Filat was sentenced to nine years in prison.
According to independent.md, lawyer Igor Popa, believes that the former prime minister should be released right from the courtroom. "There is no legal basis for criminal liability and sentencing of Vlad Filat either in terms of passive corruption or influence peddling, for which I requested full payment of his appeal. Vladimir Filat will be released from the courtroom ", said the cited source.
On examining of the case, will participate judges Iurie Melinteanu and Ludmila Ouş.
Vlad Filat was detained on October 15, 2015 under a written self-denunciation of Ilan Shor, showing that he would have given the former premier USD 250 million.
On 27 June, the Buiucani District Court sentenced Vlad Filat to 9 years in prison. He pleads innocent.
