The mayor sued the Central District Court's judgment that allowed the registration of an initiative group that opts for the organization of a local referendum on his dismissal.
The media published information that Dorin Chirtoaca lodged an objection against one of the judges.
The founder of the initiative group, Victor Chironda, believes that in this way Chirtoaca tries to postpone the process. We’ll wait for another judge to be appointed and another hearing will take place today or tomorrow. It is a method of delaying the process. Dorin Chirtoaca is aware that he is wrong and that he cannot legally prevent the referendum. However, we are awaiting the final decision and have to start collecting signatures," Victor Chironda said for agora.md.
The authors of the initiative hope that the Court of Appeal will reject the mayor’s appeal and in this case, they will start collecting the necessary signatures from 22 - 25 August, which must be completed on 15 September.
Recall that many of the counselors of the Chisinau Municipal Council, members of SPRM, PPEM and Our Party faction, together with representatives of civil society, agreed on a common agenda to act jointly, organize, and hold the referendum on the resignation of the mayor Dorin Chirtoaca.
Chisinau Referendum Platform intends, at this stage, to gather as many signatures as possible, so that later, it can trigger all legal procedures to initiate a local referendum that could take place on 30 October on the same day as the presidential elections.
