Gagauzia autonomous region is preparing for elections. On November 20, residents of the region will choose 35 deputies in the People's Assembly, writes gaguzinfo.md.
The decision on the election date was adopted by a majority of votes in the special session of the local legislature, on 5 September.
The current President of the People's Assembly, Dmitry Constantinov said that the new composition of the People's Assembly must enter the new year with the budget adopted and therefore it was necessary that the elections should be held soon. Constantinov aslo said it's not possible for elections of the legislative body of autonomy to be held simultaneously with the presidential elections, although in this case "would be saved around MDL 2.3 million."
Autonomy deputies of the People's Assembly are elected by direct vote for a term of 4 years. The founding meeting on the current composition of the People's Assembly was held on October 30, 2012.
