Lawyer of Ex-Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Igor Popa asked the Chisinau Court of Appeal, for his full payment and release from the courtroom, writes unimedia.info.

According to Igor Popa, the hearing that will examine the request will be held on 20th September.

"Our expectations are related to the achievement of a fair trial in the Vlad Filat case: public hearings, respecting the right to a translator, the right to defense witnesses under conditions in which the prosecution witnesses were heard etc. The sentence challenged by us is illegal, unfounded and unsupported. Conclusions about Vlad Filat's guilt of the offense can not be based on assumptions," said Igor Popa, quoted by Unimed.

The lawyer believes that there is no legal basis for criminal liability and sentencing of the former prime minister, nor in terms of passive corruption or influence peddling, for which he requested full payment of his appeal. "Vladimir Filat will be released from the courtroom" said Popa.

According to the lawyer, Vlad Filat's case will be examined by judges Nichifor Corochii, Iurie Melenteanu, Ludmila Ouş. More details about the three judges can be seen in the ZDG investigation.

We remind that Vlad Filat was sentenced to nine years in prison on 27th June for passive corruption and influence peddling.
