The investigators of the Secret Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) demand the prolongation of the arrest term on the name of Carina Ţurcan, the former Inter RAO employee accused of espionage in favor of Romania. The request is due to be examined in a closed session on August 10, the TASS news agency reports.
The previously established arrest warrant expires on August 13.
Originating from Moldova and holding Romanian citizenship, Carina Turcan is accused of espionage by Russian intelligence services. The former employee of the Russian Inter RAO holding is accused of collaborating with the secret services in Romania, but also those of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the case, Turcan would have disclosed to Romania the electricity supply schemes in Donbass and secret documents about Russian energy companies to Moldova.
Carina Turcan was detained by the FSB in Moscow on June 14, and one day later she was placed in arrest for espionage.
Following her detention, Turcan was dismissed from the Inter RAO holding.
According to the Russian Federation's legislation, she is facing up to 20 years in prison.
