The President of the Republic of Moldova Nicolae Timofti, the Supreme Commander of the Moldovan Armed Forces, is against the Ministry of Defense’s initiative to exhibit the American military equipment at the Great National Assembly Square on May 9.
According to the realitatea.md, the presidential adviser on defense and security Alexei Barbaneagra sent a request to the Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru in which is mentioned that the President believes that such exhibition "can generate negative interpretations and speculations".
"…The President of Moldova considers it inappropriate to organize such the activity in actual circumstances" – he said.
Anatol Salaru answered that will not give up this idea: "Our decision to organize this exhibition in commemoration of the victims of the World War II remains in force and the exhibition will be organized".
We note that yesterday, May 3, over 100 military vehicles and combat units of the US Army arrived in Moldova through the checkpoint Sculeni, being blocked for more than an hour by the deputies from the Socialist Party.
The purpose of the training of is increasing the cooperation between the two armies, research and fortification works, provision logistics in field conditions and medical assistance.
