The candidate of the SOR Party, Reghina Apostolova, will not return to the electoral race for the city hall of Chisinau. The Court of Appeal (CA) upheld the decision of the first instance to remove the candidate from the electoral race.
The decision of the Court of Appeal was taken on Monday, May 14, when Reghina Apostolova’s lawyers challenged the ruling of the trial court.
The information was provided to CrimeMoldova by Octeabrina Popa, spokesperson of the Court of Appeal.
"The magistrates' decision can be appealed to the Supreme Court in the next three days," Popa said.
The request for exclusion from the electoral race of the candidate nominated by the SOR Party was filed by the Constituency Council of Chisinau, which was notified by the National Unity Party of Apostolova’s illegal financing by foreign citizens. Similarly, Reghina Apostolova was accused of using the image of a foreign citizen in an election advertisement, namely Ilan Shor’s wife, the singer Jasmin.
Reghina Apostolova and her lawyers rejected the accusations and claimed the magistrates' decision is illegal.
After Reghina Apostolova’s exclusion, eleven candidates remained in the electoral race for the capital's mayor’s office.
