Trnsnistria intends to ask Russia for help in ensuring security, if Moldovan-Ukrainian customs checkpoints will be installed in Transnistria. The statement was made by the head of the so-called Foreign Ministry in the region, Vitalii Ignatiev, for the Russian publication RIA Novosti.
He also said that the initiative of the Moldovan and Ukrainian authorities could deepen the conflict in the region.
"The consequences will be fatal, plus the security factor. This is when Moldovan securitians appear on the eastern border of Transnistria. Who guarantees the lack of challenges in this case - an open question," Ignatiev said.
According to him, the initiative of joint Moldovan-Ukrainian control worsens the situation, undermines credibility and basically leads "to the beginning of a conflict resistance phase, involving the use of weapons".
In this respect, Tiraspol does not exclude the request for Russian aid to ensure its security and to obtain additional international guarantees. According to Ignatiev, representatives of the Russian forces will be installed at border checkpoints.
At the same time, the Supreme Soviet of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian republic called on the Parliaments of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, as well as to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, not to admit a blockade in Transnistria and destabilize the situation of the "peasemakers".
At a meeting from yesterday, May 17, the Supreme Soviet adopted a declaration against the establishment of joint Moldovan-Ukrainian control.
The text of the decision mentions that the decision of the Constitutional Court of May 2, regarding the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova, is a challenge meant to undermine the mission of the Russian "peacekeepers" in Transnistria. Recall that the CC, by its quoted decision, determined that finding the Russian armed forces on the territory of Moldova is unconstitutional.
